Running for a Cause That’s Close to My Heart: Supporting the Carla P. Valadez & RC Beall Neuro Endowment
Running for a Cause That’s Close to My Heart: Supporting the Carla P. Valadez & RC Beall Neuro Endowment On Sunday, February 16th, 2025, I’ll be running the Austin Marathon — but this race is about much more than just the finish line. It’s about honoring my mom, Carla P. Valadez, and my dear friend, RC Beall. I am raising funds to support the Carla P. Valadez & RC Beall Neuro Endowment at Dell Seton Medical Center, a newly established endowment dedicated to supporting the Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU) and the essential work they do for patients in need of specialized neurology care.
In 2018, I lost my mom to brain cancer. The neurologists and medical professionals here in Austin played an invaluable role in diagnosing, treating, and supporting her during that incredibly difficult time. The care and expertise we received were critical, and that’s why I feel so strongly about supporting this field.
In 2022, my friend RC was in need of life-saving care at Dell Seton’s NCCU after sustaining a traumatic brain injury, and once again, I witnessed the difference that skilled neurocritical care professionals can make. The team’s dedication and expertise were pivotal in his recovery, and I am beyond grateful for their unwavering commitment.
As a lifelong Austinite and an avid runner, I’ve always felt deeply connected to this city. What truly makes Austin special is its people — the incredible community who shows up for each other in meaningful ways. That’s why I’m asking for your help. Every dollar raised will go directly to supporting the Carla P. Valadez & RC Beall Neuro Endowment, ensuring that others can benefit from the life-saving care that means so much to me and my family.
If you can contribute, any amount will make a difference. If you can’t donate, but happen to be in Austin on February 16th, please look out for me in the race and send some cheers or words of encouragement — they will mean the world to me.
Thank you for being part of this journey and for supporting a cause that is close to my heart. Together, we can make a lasting impact on neurology care in Austin.
With gratitude,
James C. Valadez
